Petitions are a powerful tool to put pressure on policymakers and companies. By signing our petitions, you contribute to our advocacy for Tibet and show that there is broad support for the Tibetan cause. Together we can make a difference.

About Our Petitions

Tibet Support Group Netherlands regularly launches petitions targeting specific issues affecting Tibet and the Tibetan people. These petitions are addressed to various audiences:

Dutch Government

We call on the Dutch government to raise the human rights situation in Tibet in bilateral talks with China and to put Tibet on the agenda in international forums such as the UN and the EU.

European Union

We urge the EU to place human rights at the centre of its relations with China and to take concrete measures against human rights violations in Tibet.

United Nations

We ask the UN to investigate human rights violations in Tibet and to put pressure on China to allow international observers into Tibet.

Corporations

We call on companies to take responsibility and not engage in business that contributes to human rights violations or environmental damage in Tibet.

Impact of Petitions

Petitions can have a significant impact, especially when they receive broad support. They can:

  • Create political pressure on policymakers
  • Generate media attention for the situation in Tibet
  • Raise awareness among the general public
  • Encourage companies to review their policies
  • Let Tibetans in Tibet know they are not forgotten

Recent successes of our petitions include:

  • A motion in the Dutch House of Representatives regarding the forced boarding schools for Tibetan children
  • Commitments from Dutch companies to investigate their supply chains in Tibet
  • Increased media attention for the environmental crisis on the Tibetan plateau

Current Petitions

Stop the Forced Boarding Schools for Tibetan Children

Nearly one million Tibetan children are forced to attend Chinese boarding schools, where they are separated from their families, culture and language. This is a form of cultural genocide that threatens the future of Tibetan identity.

With this petition, we call on the Dutch government to:

  • Raise this issue in bilateral talks with China
  • Express support for the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples
  • Put pressure on China to end this practice

Protect the Tibetan Environment

The Tibetan plateau, often called the "Third Pole" because of its enormous ice fields, is crucial for the water supply of billions of people in Asia. Chinese mining and dam projects pose a serious threat to this fragile ecosystem.

With this petition, we call on the EU to:

  • Include environmental protection in trade negotiations with China
  • Invest in independent research into the environmental crisis in Tibet
  • Require European companies to conduct due diligence for activities in Tibet

Religious Freedom for Tibet

The Chinese government is conducting a systematic campaign to suppress religious freedom in Tibet. Monasteries are under strict surveillance, religious symbols are banned, and the Chinese state claims the right to control the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama.

With this petition, we call on the UN Human Rights Council to:

  • Appoint a special rapporteur on religious freedom in Tibet
  • Condemn China for violations of religious freedom
  • Recognise the right of Tibetans to choose their religious leaders
